Meta, the social media giant, has recently been blocking links to Pixelfed, a decentralized competitor to Instagram, just days after declaring its commitment to free expression. This action has raised doubts about the sincerity of Mark Zuckerberg’s promise to reduce censorship. Reports indicate that links to pixelfed.social are being flagged as 'spam' and swiftly deleted on Facebook, a platform owned by Meta. This censorship of competitors contradicts Meta's stated commitment to free expression. The issue was first noticed by AJ Sadauskas on Bluesky, another competitor platform, where screenshots showed Pixelfed links being removed from Facebook within seconds. Another user, Johan Vandevelde, confirmed that the automatic deletions were not limited to Pixelfed.
